The best podcasts for first time dads.

November 19, 2018 3 minute read

Podcasts can be a great way to relax while learning new things about a subject that we’re passionate about. They can also fill in those inevitable slow moments in life when we’re waiting for a doctor’s appointment or stuck in traffic on the drive to work.

In fact, the ease with which people can consume podcasts is one of the big reasons for their popularity. When you’re strapped for time, they respect that and they allow you to tune in and listen when you’re ready. Then there’s the fact that most podcasts are as entertaining as they are educational, scratching two different itches at once.

This is good news for first-time dads, who are likely to find themselves strapped for time and a little overwhelmed by everything. Better still, there are plenty of podcasts out there that are specifically designed to help first-time dads. Here are just a few of the best of them:

1. The Infinite Monkey Cage: Headed by Brian Cox and Robin Ince, this podcast features a panel of experts/comedians. It’ll come in handy when your kids grow up enough to start asking questions about why they’re here in the first place.

2. Making It: If you’ve always wanted to get handy with DIY projects, this show will give you the inspiration to do just that. Because it’s never too early to build a tree house.

3. Hidden Brain: This quirky but fascinating podcast will make sure that you’re all up to date with the latest thinking on how our brains learn and process data.

4. The Dad Cast: This weekly podcast is targeted specifically towards fathers and features regular guests and practical, actionable advice.

5. Mom and Dad Are Fighting: As the title suggests, this podcast doesn’t sugar-coat things and while it does have a sense of humour to it, it’s also brave enough to take on subjects that other podcasts are too afraid to handle.

6. The Life of Dad Show: The quirk for this podcast is that they interview well-known fathers from the public eye, with guests including Shaquille O’Neal, Kurt Warner and Ice Cube.

7. Beardy Dads: Hosted by two fathers from the UK, this podcast covers all sorts of parenting topics and they also share related links and other resources from their website.

Of course, these are just a few of the podcasts that are good to get started with, and there are many, many more out there just waiting for you to discover them. In the meantime, they’re great podcasts to get started with and we’re sure you’ll enjoy listening to them in the months and years to come as you raise your child. Good luck.
