So why did we decide to make a carbon fiber cell phone case? Mainly because it's very light, but manages to stay really strong. In fact, it's five times stronger than steel, yet weighs about two-thirds less. Thomas Edison, of light bulb invention fame, (thanks, Tom) actually used carbon fiber filaments made from bamboo fires in his early experiments. Today, in our fully technicolor world, it's used in aerospace, motorsport racing, and of course, iPhone 6/6S cases and iPad mini 2 cases.

You probably know by now that carbon fibre is pretty tough. By tough, though, could it possibly be strong enough to survive a shotgun blast?

There’s only one way to find out. Watch and see if Uncle Barry manages to save our precious iPhone.

HERE’S HOW IT HAPPENED

The Shotgun Test took place on the 13th September, 2013 (yes, it was a Friday) in a controlled environment in the East Sussex countryside with an independent witness and marksman, Barry Monson.

So why did we decide to make a carbon fibre cell phone case? Mainly because it's very light, but manages to stay really strong. In fact, it's five times stronger than steel, yet

This exercise was put together to demonstrate how tough the carbon fiber in our cases can be. Being British, cucumber-sandwich-eating lightweights, we strongly advise that you do not shoot your own case. Or yourself. Or a badger. Or a swan (it makes the Queen angry). Or anyone else. Or attempt any shotgun experiments unless it's in a controlled environment with the correct equipment and with professional support around you. We can't be held responsible for any incidents that happen as a result of this and we very much request that you just take our word for it. Stay safe, people.
