About a wallet…

Just the other day one of the Proporta team, Juan, benefited from what can only be described as a piece of gilt-edged,
triple-A grade luck.Although we’re only small (there are fewer than twenty of us in the UK) we take pride in being a little bit global in our outlook.

It’s not just because we sell to more than thirty countries*, it’s because our team includes people from across Europe and Asia and, when someone trips over Darwin, our much-loved but spatially-unaware office dog, it’s hard to know what language the colourful response will be shouted in – and, to be fair, it’s probably best not understood anyway.

* Thank you, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, we’re standing on the shoulders of giants here.

So, when Juan beautifully laser etched a Proporta leather walletbefore carefully leaving it in the workshop next to the machine and sending his < own wallet> to the customer, it was as likely to end up in Tolpuddle as Timbuktu or Tipperary – and we all know that’s quite a way from Brighton

In fact, it arrived safe and sound with a very charming and helpful gentleman called Robert… in Rottingdean, our neighbouring village, just 2.5 miles (4 km) over the South Downs towards the sea from our office.

When we asked Dan from our IT team for the probability of this happening, a pained expression crossed his young face and we took this to mean that his time would be better spent improving our online search function than doing the maths for us – so we filed it under ‘really very unlikely indeed’.

But it got us thinking.

What with the 18 the of June being the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, the words of Napoleon Bonaparte “luck is half in everything” popped into our heads and so we called an emergency meeting of the Board to announce that Juan was to replace the three of them and run the company.

Not everyone had forgotten their history though, and I was quickly reminded of Napoleon’s other quote: “Wellington is a bad general… the English are bad troops and this can be settled over lunch.”

So, instead, between now and the 18th June, enter the promocode 2EURO50 to get 20% off your order at proporta.co.uk and nobody tell France.
